Please share this information with anyone in the area that may be looking for a recertification course. This will likely be the only Wisconsin recertification course in the area this year. The next closest will be Spooner or Eau Claire.

Grade 8 - 9 Recertification River Falls

What: A Soccer Referee Recertification Clinic. This is for referees that currently hold a Grade 9 or Grade 8 Referee Certification. By completing this clinic you will get the same certification for next year. Referees who were certified in 2007 but not 2008 can also attend this clinic and obtain the same certification that had in 2007 for 2009. This is a one day course that last approximately 5 hours. It is scheduled to end at 3:00 but could go longer if there is a large turnout or any problems during the clinic.

When: OCTOBER 18 from 10:00 am until 3:00

Where: Room 260 (Also known as Ballroom A) University Center on the University of Wisconsin - River Falls Campus

How: Pre-registration Required - go to Wisref.org to sign up

Cost: You will need two checks

What else to Bring: Your USSF Card from last year (or the year before) or your USSF Number, your flags, a pencil or pen, some note paper, any questions you had from this last year. If you are missing your USSF number, the instructor may be able to look it up - but it will save time if you can find it.

The number of games you worked last year. Sort by games for players under 16, games for players between 16 and 19, games for players over 19.

You will need your address, phone number, and an e-mail address that no other referee is currently using. It would help if it was an e-mail address that some one checked regularly.

Food: You are on your own for lunch and breaks. There is a cafeteria, a coffee shop, a small convinence store and a few other small eating establishments in the building. About 7 or 8 blocks away (to the west) is a Dairy Queen and a small shopping center.

Parking: Parking is available in faculty lots "F" and "G"

Course Purpose: To recertify you at the next grade up from a grade 9. This course in NOT for new referees or those wishing to recertify at their current grade. A recertification course will be held 10/18 and a new referee clinic will be held in March. Both these courses will be held in River Falls.

If you can not make this course:

There are many courses offered in the area through out the year. Check on http://www.wisref.org/clinics/clinics.asp for Wisconsin based clinics. Most of the recertification clinics in Wisconsin will be held before January 1st. Most of the Minnesota based recertification clinics will be head in late December through April of 2009. There is only one clinic currently listed on the Minnesota side, but by January there will be close to 100 to choose from. The Minnesota clinics can be found at http://www.minnesotasrc.org/clinics_pre.php.

There is no difference in the certification you get from either state. But because Wisconsin is trying to use an automated assigning system statewide, if you get certified in Minnesota you may need to pay an additional $5 fee to get listed as a Wisconsin Referee in order to work games in Wisconsin. If you get certified in Wisconsin you should ask the State Referee Administrator to provide your certification information to their Minnesota Counter part so you get listed on Minnesota's list of certified referees.

Adult Referee Background Checks

The US Soccer Federation (USSF) now requires all adult referees that officiate youth games to have a background check. USSF stipulates that the background check must be that of the state organization for which the adult referees are officiating games. Given this, any adult referee now officiating an MYSA league game, MYSA sanctioned tournament, etc. must first pass the MYSA background check.

MYSA requires that background checks be conducted once per soccer year (Sept. 1 - Aug. 31). The cost is $15.00 and each adult referee should send a check in this amount to the MYSA office at 11577 Encore Circle, Minnetonka, MNĘ 55343, Attention Candace Daley. Adult referees completing the background check now will be cleared to officiate for the Fall of 2008 and Summer of 2009. Each MYSA Member Club Referee Assignor will be given a list of approved names prior to the start of the season, and possibly at other times, if necessary.

Listed below is the information each of you should send to your adult referees that plan to officiate during the MYSA Fall Season. Please have the referees complete the process below and mail their $15.00 check as soon as possible so they will receive clearance in time for the Fall Season. NOTE: Turnaround time is usually 48 to 72 hours. This process does NOT serve as registration to MYSA or any MYSA Club; it only gives MYSA the information and permission necessary to conduct a background check. If the referees have any questions, they may contact Candace Daley, MYSA Executive Director directly at 952-252-1687. Thank you!
